California begins printing IOUs
Nearly 29,000 IOUs worth $53 million will be sent, mostly to residents awaiting tax refunds. Finance officials set the interest rate at 3.75% for banks that accept the vouchers.

I just had a meeting about this today. If you are going to be receiving one of these "IOUs" do not sit on them. The bank that I work for will only be accepting them for 1 week. A lot of institutions(banks) wont be accepting these because the bank themselves dont have enough cash flow to "lend" to the state (which is what this is, the state is borrowing from the banks). Interesting stuff when you really get down to it. How is the state going to get out of debt by borrowing? Im gonna have to start reading and find out their awesome plan haha.

and i've been working since i was 12.

i wanna know why i never got the stimulus check last year and why i had to pay out of pocket this year when i don't claim any dependents and i've always filed my entire life never skipped a year.

the fact you dont claim any dependants is one of the reasons why you might owe money. One thing i do (and what many people do) is claim 1 person (yourself). Also you need more write-offs (like a business). Dont you own a business? On top of my regular job i claimed myself as a business. I used all my paypal receipts for all my record purchases and I claimed all my dj earnings. When all was said and done i claimed $300 in profit and $5000 in losses haha (but i got some good tunes!) also, make sure you have receipts for everything. You can only claim a loss on your business for like 4 or 5 years legally, i think?
another thing is setup a 401k or some kind of IRA savings account. All those contributions to an IRA are tax deferred.
another thing is student loans...

also you get some credit if you "rent".
I had a huge issue with owning taxes the last few years until i hooked up with a good tax rep. There is no reason anyone should ever owe taxes unless your job makes you do your own taxes and withholdings.
